A VERY ODD DUCK!!!

This duck showed up here yesterday. He (I guess it is a he) is as big as my white ducks, actually a little longer. I've not heard him quack. He did fly a little bit. He is pretty friendly or at least is not scared of me. He has been following my other ducks around & has already had a fight with my rooster & I would say he won. Rooster does not like him at all. Danny believes I brought this duck home but I DID NOT! Of a matter of fact I have never seen a duck like this before in my life! He's not in my wild bird book so I really dont know what to think about the fella. Have any of yall out there ever seen a duck like this before?

That is a muscovy duck. They do not quack. However, if he hangs around pretty soon all ducks born on your farm will be ugly like him. We had them in FLorida. I didn't like them. =)

Tina, I have a picture of a duck I took that is similiar but not. I was going to post it on my blog for "d" today but decided not since it looks like something is wrong with it. I'm going to e-mail the picture to you and see what you think.

Hey Marci you were right! I looked it up & it says that it can mate with other kinds of ducks & that the off spring are called mule ducks b/c they are sterile. Never heard of such! Well at least I want have a bunch of ugly breeding ducks. I called Danny & told him. He was glad the offspring would be sterile but was kinda hoping we might get some babys. We've never had any. Thanks Marci & Patsy for looking for me.

Well, I will show my ignorance. I thought the male ducks were supposed to be pretty and the female ducks were the ugly ones. But I do have to say this Tina, your new duck or whatever he/she is will not win a beauty contest. LOL

Thanks Tina for visiting my blog and for your prayers.

No, I have never seen a duck like that, Tina! He's a very unique duck, isn't he? He's kinda cute, in a ducky way, LOL.

Thanks for stopping by to see me! Yep, I'm working, but have some posts saved up to blog about. It may slow down though since I'm not home working on things all the time now. But, I'll think up something to talk about!

Patsy will have to help you out with them. I don't really like them. I recall they poot a lot and you will step in it. I thought they would stay on the pond...no
they go all over and leave droppings.

They are good layers and mothers, but I guess that doesn't matter, if it is a male. They are also good meat birds (if you want to get rid of him), all dark meat, though. heehee

Hi Tina,
We used to have one. It is a muscovy and they have this little whisper/talk, but do not quack. They make great pets!
Blessings!
