And About Those Black Berries!

I think we had about 14 pounds of black berries. I froze 6 quarts for cobblers and the rest Danny & I made jelly with. Now...in case you don't know.....I DON'T LIKE FRUIT! I don't eat jelly or preserves so this project is performed WITH my husband FOR my husband....and he is the mastermind behind the jelly making anyway. My job is to fetch this & fetch that & wash this & OH WHAT A MESS DANNY MAKES!! I had to remind him that you DON'T BOIL YOUR JARS FOR 15 MINUTES AND WONDER WHY THEY CRACK! He learned that he doesn't like squeezing the fruit with cheese cloth or using a spoon to squish it down. (He bought a juicer yesterday so he would never have to do that again) Anyway it all turned out in the wash or AFTER the wash. We ended up with 16 pints (would have been 17 if the jar didn't crack) and a piece. Danny is ready to make grape jelly now by using the juicer. He has been wanting one for a while. I'll let you know in a month or so how it turns out.

Your header looks smaller. How did you do that?

The blackberries look delicious. I am not a big jelly or preserves fan but my hubby loves them with hot buttered biscuits. I love fresh fruit, no sugar or salt added.

Looks like mama dot is doubting your hubby's ability to make jelly. LOL

Did you put the wax on top...that is what I do?

I don't think my hubby knows how to make blackberry jelly. You got the goodin'.
Send your header to me and I will try to size it for you, daughter..you are too young to me a sister.

A sized picture needs to be long with the scene long and skinny or it ain't going work too good. teehee

love black berry anything. if danny would let his jell cool a short time before pour in the jars they wont crack. there is no need to proccess jell the sugar is a preserve and will keep just like salt keep foods also.
so you chicks wont eat table scraps. if they are free ranging they are full of grass hoopers or aphids. nothing sweet for chickens or real salty. mine love cucumbers that i over look and grow large. i also give them small amounts of meat.

Oh Tina, the jelly )or Jam) looks so good. If you find you have more than enough on your hands, just head up toward Tennessee. My house is the little brick house with black shutters. LOL
P.S. You can stop in the Smokies on the way!

The one thing I can do for my Daddy that no one else does is to make him blackberry jam. We like it here, but most of what I make goes to him. I do want to make my guys a blackberry pie. I don't think I got as many berries as you did, but I didn't weigh them. Plus, they came in from 4 different pickings. I believe there may be more out there to pick now.

I have never made jelly, but heard it was a pain, so never tried.

I have just canned 10 pints of salsa. I've had so many tomatoes. We've had our share of BLT's. We may eat them again tonight.
