My friend Patsy at "My Life and Times" has a good many chickens so I left a message on her blog that I would like her opinion about a dispute between my dear husband and I. I bought some chicks this spring & as you can see they are about grown..but not laying yet. The chicken with the bigger cone..I think is a rooster. You can really see the difference between the two chickens when they are standing side by side. One has a much smaller cone, like a hen, but the other one is bigger & redder. So Patsy and anybody else..what do you think? I was right when it came to determining the sex of my turkeys in the past but these two chickens are causing an up-roar among the habitants of this farm!!

I'd say the top chicken and the one on the left are roosters.

i think the large comb is a rooster if the chickens are the same age.

I'd say the top one is the rooster. Have you heard any of them crow? That is the rooster!

The mean rooster, which is a different kind is the only one that is crowing. They are the same age. You think maybe the reason he doesnt crow is because of the mean rooster? The mean one IS very dominating. Thanks Patsy & Clara..I hope some more will respond...I'm saving up & then I'm going to show my husband this post!!LOL!

I bought them as chicks in March, I think. But there has been a new development....one of them laid an egg yesterday! I guess I will have to camp out & see which one is the hen & take a picture! I called my husband at work yesterday to let him know I found an egg. His comment, "So your rooster laid an egg huh?" We have got to get this settled...I cant stand it!!!LOL!!

my sister name is fleta and sometime we call her flet, she suggest i call my chicken flet. so i did. i really don't know if your chicken is a rooster or hen but she or he is old enough it should do rooster things, like crowing or droping one wing and going around a hen. in circles. and getting on the hen.
